Robots for kids are todays equivalent of how Legos were for countless of kids from previous generations. Just like Legos, new robots are snapped together piece by piece until completed and just like Legos, robots can be deconstructed and reconstructed to yield different forms that give unique results. The only difference between Legos and robots is, unlike Legos, which are snapped together to build a model or design; a robot is programmed and fitted with servos, actuators, and other hardware components that bring your robotic puzzle to life. Kids that learn how to program robots via robotics kits are opening doors for them to become the next generation of roboticist’s, inventors, and innovators that the world needs.
SolveLight Robotics is working with Canadian robotics company EZRobot to bring robots for kids to the home, classroom, and research groups. By inspiring kids early on in life they can go on to pursue degrees in fields such as programming and robotic engineering; shaping the minds of kids at early stages of life can help discipline them for a career orientated life ahead of them.
EZRobot offers several robots to choose from, each with their own unique design and function. The main three that will be covered are JD Humanoid, Six Hexapod, and Roli Rover. The parts of each robot are interchangeable, giving users an easy way to change pieces and build their own robotic creations. What’s even better is with EZRobot robots they are easy to manipulate and program. Each robot comes with a built in camera in the head to track objects, colors, faces, motion, glyphs, and even QR codes.
EZRobot JD Humanoid is a bipedal robot with an impressive range of motion, a whole 16 degrees of freedom. JD humanoids movements are backed by several impressive metal gear heavy-duty servos that allows you to teach JD anything you want from dancing, walking, and other ranges of motion, without the fear of annoying gear malfunction. For kids who are learning how to program robots, JD is a great introduction to robotics and a powerful learning tool for developing programming skills and important fundamentals of robotics. JD comes with EZBuilder Software for easy programming and app development for the laptop and phone; controlling JD gets even easier because it is a Wi-Fi enabled robot that can be controlled right from a smartphone device. JD Humanoid dimensions are 22.9 cm (9.01575 inches) width, 15.2 cm (5.984252 inches) length, 31.8 cm (12.51969 inches) height, and weighs 1.324 kg (2.9189204 lbs.). JD humanoid robot comes with 18 LED’s embedded in the eyes of the head, giving users endless light patterns to configure. The EZ bits that assemble JD humanoid are as follows: 1 x EZ-B v4 Wi-Fi robot controller, 1 x EZ-Builder control software with apps, 1 x humanoid head with camera and RGB eyes, 1 x humanoid body (including battery), 6 x lever servo-motor’s, 2 x servo-motor gripper’s, 1 x humanoid 2 servo-motor Foot and ankle (left), 1 x humanoid 2 servo-motor foot and ankle (right), 2 x extension cable’s, 1 x LiPo battery 7.4VDC 1300mAh, 1 x LiPo battery balancer charger, and 2 x wire spiral wrap’s (6” length). Another upside with EZRobot robots is that its parts are 3D printable, great for people with 3d printers who want to alter the design or replace JD humanoids parts.
EZRobot Six Hexapod is another futuristic robotic design that has 6 legs that gets it from place to place. Just like JD humanoid it comes with the EZBuilder controller software that enables users to control and create apps to run off users smart phone device. Six has 12 degrees of freedom and utilizes 12 heavy-duty servo motors for fluid movement. Six has a circular body and is equipped with 12 female ez-clips to attach the legs and 1 female ez-clip on top of the body for the head to be snapped into place. Just like JD, Six has downloadable 3d files for users to 3d print modifications and replacement parts. Six Hexapods dimension are 35.6 cm (14.01575 inches) width, 35.6 cm (14.01575 inches) length, 19.1 cm (7.519685 inches) height, and a weight of 1.172 kg (2.5838177 lbs.). In the box you will find 1 x EZ-B Wi-Fi robot controller, 1 x EZ-Builder control software with apps, 1 x Hexapod body (including battery), 1 x LiPo batter .4VDC 1300mAh, 1 x LiPo batter balancer charger, 1 x EZ-B v4 camera, 12 x lever servo motor’s, 6 x peg’s, and 1 x wire spiral pack.
EZRobot Roli Rover is a great addition to your robot lineup, a robot that’s able to tackle even the most difficult terrains average robots can’t. Roli is equipped with 2 grippers as well as 2 treads, 1 on each side and can be adjusted for ground clearance. Designed with rugged terrain in mind Roli can be used as a mobile worker, carrying anything from cans of soda to supplies; with a removable cup holder for extra space when needed. Just like EZRobots other robots Roli comes with motion tracking and EZBuilder software with apps as well for users to program and develop different movements. Roli also has downloadable files for makers to 3d print replacement and customized parts. Roli Rover has 13 female ez-bit connections for additional ez-bits. Roli Rovers dimensions are 24.1 cm (9.488189 inches) width, 34.3 cm (13.50394 inches) length, 30.5 cm (11.81102 inches) height, and weight 1.740 kg (3.83604336 lbs.). Roli Rovers box contains 1 x EZ-B Wi-Fi robot controller, 1 x EZ-Builder control software with apps, 1 x Roli body (P-016), 2 x 3 servo-motors, 1 x lever servo-motor, 1 x roation servo-motor, 1 x LiPo battery 7.4VDC 1300mAh, 1 x LiPo battery balancer charger, 2 x extension cable’s, 1 x EZ-B v4 camera, 1 x 2.5 amp motor controller, 2 x wire spiral wraps (6” length).
EZRobot is a part of STEM; bringing countless robots for kids and helping kids learn robotics and computer science. The technology that the kids of today interact and learn from will lead to the creation of more advanced and sophisticated robots with impressive artificial intelligence. The closer SolveLight Robotics is to achieving the goal of integrating robotics in the classroom, home, and business the closer we are in creating a self sustaining and automated future for generations to come.
